UTPA Women’s Golf Opens Fall Season at CSU Cougar Classic

September 15, 2012 — CHICAGO, Illinois — The University of Texas-Pan American women’s golf team opens the fall season at the CSU Cougar Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Harborside International Golf Center.

Each day will feature a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. with 36 holes taking place on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

The course is about 6,000 yards long and a par 72.

The Competition

The field consists of 16 teams:

5. Valparaiso
6. Cleveland State
8. Bethel (Ind.)
10. North Dakota
11. Green Bay
12. SIUE
13. Lewis (Ill.)
14. Eastern Illinois
15. Northern Illinois
16. U.I.C.

Been a While

This is the first time the Broncs have competed in Illinois since 2002-03, when they finished in sixth out of 10 schools at the Huskie Classic in Huntley.

Don’t Mess with Texas

Seven out of the nine student-athletes on the Broncs’ roster are from Texas, including two from the Rio Grande Valley in junior and Edinburg-native Samantha Parrao and sophomore and Edcouch-native Ashley Garcia. The other Texans on the Broncs are senior Sarah Kothny (Kingwood), sophomore Marisa Canales (League City) and freshmen Juliette Crook (Lampasas), Rachel Gere (Kingwood) and Haley Sauls (Austin).

Next Up

The Broncs travel to Oral Roberts for a tournament on October 1 and 2.
