Men’s Golf Closes Out Fall Season at Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational Friday
EL PASO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men’s golf team closes out their fall season when they compete at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational starting on Friday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
The 54-hole event will include 18 holes being played on Friday, 18 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes played on Sunday. Play will start at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday with a 9:15 a.m.
Butterfield Trail Golf Club plays 7,307 yards and is a par 72.
The invitational, in its fifth year, will have 11 teams competing. Along with UTRGV, Air Force, Army West Point, Marquette, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Seton Hall, Texas State, UTEP, UTSA and Western New Mexico will be teeing it up.
Last Time Out
UTRGV last competed at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate where they finished in 12th place with a three-round score of 894 after posting rounds of 296, 297 and 301.
Pedro Lamadrid led the way as he finished tied for 24th with a three-round score of 218. He kept his rounds in the low 70s after turning in rounds of 72, 73 and 73. Lamadrid led the field with 41 pars throughout the tournament.
Ali Khazanbeik finished tied for 42nd with a three-round score of 223 after turning in rounds of 75, 72 and 76. Michael Rizzo and Casto Gomez-Ruiz finished tied for 58th with three-round scores of 227. Rizzo had rounds of 72, 76 and 79 while Gomez-Ruiz posted rounds of 77, 77 and 73. Mariano Romero finished tied for 84th with a three-round score of 239 with rounds of 79, 76 and 84.
Last Year at Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational
This will be the first year competing at the invitational for UTRGV.
Last year, Kansas University won the team title after finishing with a three-round score of 826. They used rounds of 279, 276 and 271 to win by 11 strokes over St. Mary’s (CA).
UMKC’s Antoine Rozner won the individual championship after finishing with a three-round score of 197, which is the tournament record, after posting rounds of 63, 67 and 67.
The Vaqueros have nine student-athletes representing six different countries including the Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the United State.
UTRGV will now turn their focus to the spring season. The spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
