Patriots’ Ebner trying out for US rugby team for Olympics
Ebner was the U.S. team’s most valuable player at the 2007 and 2008 Junior World Championship. He played rugby exclusively his first two years at university in Ohio before walking onto the football team. He was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft.

Both Ebner and USA Rugby expressed gratitude to New England for allowing him to take a leave of absence.
