MLB | Red Sox fans got their wish and booed Alex Rodriguez to oblivion
Boston Red Sox fans at Fenway Park made their voices heard on Tuesday and called for Alex Rodriguez to make one last appearance with a “We want A-Rod” chant.

They finally got their wish on Wednesday night, and for those of you wondering if he’d get a standing ovation or not, here’s your answer:

Yup, that’s one enormous, park-wide, out-of-this-world boo (it looked like there were a few brave Yankees fans near the dugout applauding). One fan even held up this famous photo of the slugger’s fight with then-Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek in 2004:

It’s not like Rodriguez wasn’t expecting the greeting. Here’s what he said before Wednesday’s game, via USA TODAY Sports:

“It’s a great chance to give me one great, loud boo on the way out and send me to Miami. The one thing is, I love Boston. It’s a great city. I love Fenway Park. I started here. My mother and brother and sister were here. I want my girls to go to college somewhere in Boston; I’m not going to say where. But somewhere in Boston.”

In other words, both sides wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s something pretty great about that.
