2016 Atlanta Braves
The Braves are going to struggle this season as they give their young players some experience. The Braves traded away Shelby Miller and Andrelton Simmonds but they got a lot of young talent in return that will make an impact in future years. The team did add Erick Aybar who will take over at short but they didn’t bring in many other players as they look to give their young talent playing time. The rotation is led by Julio Teheran and then there are a lot of question marks. The Braves will probably put Bud Norris in the rotation until one of their youngsters are ready and he will be joined by Matt Wisler, Williams Perez and then who knows. It could be Manny Banuelos, Kyle Kendrick, Mike Foltynewicz, Tyrell Jenkins, Aaron Blair or Ryan Weber.
The rotation will get better with a lot of young talented arms coming up soon and the Braves will need them because the lineup is weak. The Braves still have Freddie Freeman and not much else. Nick Markakis is hitting fourth and he has yet to prove he can hit for power in Atlanta. There is just not much beyond Freeman in this lineup as the Braves are going with retreads Nick Swisher, A.J. Pierzynski and Michael Bourn until their young players are ready.
The bullpen for the Braves was a bust last season and it may not be any better in 2016. The team is still counting on Jim Johnson and Jason Grilli and neither has proved to be reliable in recent seasons. The team would be better served putting Arodys Vizcaino in the role of closer and then letting the youngsters fill in the rest of the spots.
